One of my favorite combinations to wear in the theme parks is shirts with skirts, because is an option that works great in hot weather yet still seems dressed up if you’re wanting to create a character inspired outfit. There are lots of ways to achieve a fun look and stay cool at the same time! You can easily create looks that are inspired by characters or create your own vibe for a Disney outfit as well.
Much of the year in Florida can be hot and humid, so it’s best to dress in lightweight and breathable fabrics. Opt for shorts, skirts, or dresses paired with sandals or sneakers. A hat and sunglasses can also provide extra protection from the sun.
Some summer outfit ideas for moms include:
- A flowy sundress with comfortable sandals
- High-waisted shorts with a long crop top and sneakers
- A midi skirt with a tank top and flats
Adjust your layers for seasons that are a bit cooler:
- A denim jacket with a sundress and sandals
- Cropped pants with a blouse and flats
- A midi skirt with a light sweater and ankle boots

What Shoes to Wear to Disney
Shoes are an important topic when planning to visit the most magical place on Earth! What you wear on your feet matters, and it isn’t just a fashion choice. When you visit Walt Disney World, you will be walking a LOT of steps! Wear shoes that are first and foremost comfortable for your feet and that you can walk a lot of steps in. Comfortable sneakers are a great option, and if your feet overheat, even sandals can be a good fit. It all comes down to having the best support, comfort, and longevity that you can get out of those soles!
Shoes for Disney should be:
- Worn prior to your trip so you know how your feet will tolerate them.
- Comfortable enough to walk possibly over 20,000 steps per day!
- Breathable to wear in hot weather.

In the hottest of months, we always bring cooling towels and spray mist fans as well. Every Disney trip can benefit from these accessories!
- Backpack: A great park bag can hold all of your essentials while still being light weight enough to carry for an entire day.
- Fanny Pack: These hip bags work great when you want to keep your hands free, and many rides you’ll be able to continue wearing it.
- Hats: A hat can help to protect your head from the sun and you can also use it as a fun accessory piece to compliment your outfit too!
In cooler months, you may want to plan to bring a lightweight jacket or other outer layer to put on if it gets a bit chilly in the evenings. I especially love wear a great jean jacket over my Disney inspired outfits. Primarily in the late fall or winter, you’ll want to consider packing these items to bring to Walt Disney World.

What to Not Wear at Disney World
There are things you should NOT wear to Disney parks though, and here are some helpful tips of what to leave at home! Before you go, make sure to look at the park guidelines for dress at all Disney World theme parks. These items below should not be a part of your outfit plan though!
- Long dresses or skirts that touch the ground. This is a safety and ride hazard, you will be asked to change or shorten your dress before entering the park.
- Costumes with masks or full face paint. Not only is it way too hot to deal with this additional apparel item, but it is also against park rules for anyone over the age of 14 to go into the parks in a costume mask. (Certain Star Wars costume items are allowed, and there are some exceptions for guests that are taking part in the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser experience.)
- Shoes with tall heels. Along the lines of having comfortable shoes, don’t wear shoes with a tall heel that could easily get stuck in cracks, rail lines, or increase the chances of you turning an ankle.
- Questionable clothing. This may be subjective in some ways, but in general, don’t wear items with profanity, that don’t cover all the right places, or contain obscenity. If you have to ask whether your clothing is considered questionable or not… it is probably best to just opt for a different outfit!
- Expensive purses, jewelry, and accessories. Look, I get it. I love a great purse. Going to Disney is not the time to break out your irreplaceable items and high value accessories. There’s a lot of bumping into things, getting in and out of rides, and movements you may not naturally do at home, I only use accessories I’ve specifically designated for Disney and wouldn’t be horribly upset if they accidentally are lost or broken during the trip. In fact, I even travel with an inexpensive moissanite wedding ring set just to wear into the parks! Leave your valuables at home or in the hotel room safe so you can focus on the fun!
Staying Cool at Disney
It’s no secret that it can get extremely hot during most of the year when you’re visiting Walt Disney World! Walt Disney World is located in Florida, which means that the climate can be hot and humid, especially during the summer months. It is important to dress appropriately for the weather so that you can enjoy your time at the park without feeling uncomfortable.

During the summer months, when temperatures can reach above 90°F (32°C), with high humidity levels. It is important to wear clothing that is lightweight, breathable, and made from moisture-wicking materials. This will help to keep you cool and dry throughout the day.
It is also important to protect yourself from the sun by wearing a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. The sun in Florida can be intense, and it is easy to get sunburned if you don’t take measures to protect against the sun. Wearing light-colored clothing can also help to reflect the sun’s rays and keep you cool.
