Universal Studios Theme Park Bag Essentials

Get ready for an exciting day at Universal Studios! These are our favorite ideas for theme park bags to bring to the park with you, as well as the essentials to put in your bag!

Most often, our family visits the Universal Studios Orlando Resort location, but you can also use the list below if you’re headed to Universal Studios Hollywood. You’ll want to make sure that you have everything you’ll need throughout the day, without filling up your bag with unnecessary items.

Lockers are available at rides that you cannot bring a bag onto the ride with you, so make sure that the bag you choose will fit into the locker requirements below as well!

What to Pack in Your Theme Park Bag

Bring the items that you’ll need throughout the day, including whatever cards or cash you plan to use for meals and souvenirs. Here are some items that are nice to have on hand at the theme park.

• Sunglasses
• Sunscreen
• Portable Charger for Phone
• Hand sanitizer
• Refillable Water Bottle
• Small Snack
• “Go-to” Pouch – with some personal essentials, like bandages, ibuprofen, or allergy medicine.
• A rain poncho in case of unexpected weather or to wear on water rides!

We like trying out the different cuisine and snacks in the theme parks, but it can be a great idea to toss a small shelf stable snack into your bag as well. Especially if you’ll be in the parks with young children.

Also, if you are looking for something to keep them busy in lines, we like downloading the app “Heads Up” onto our phones before going to the theme park! You can download different topics like Harry Potter movies or other fandoms, and play the game right while you’re in line.

Additionally, make sure that the bag that you choose has enough space to hold all of these essentials, but will be the right size to fit into the lockers provided at some rides.

Theme Park Bag Dimensions

You won’t be able to bring your bag on all of the rides at Universal Studios, however free lockers are provided at those rides where they ask you to leave your bag behind. The free ride lockers at Universal Studios are typically 14” x 5.5” x 16.9” in size.

These are designed to fit small to medium-sized bags, like compact backpacks, sling bags, or fanny packs. If your bag is too large to fit in these lockers, you will need to rent a larger locker for a fee or bring a smaller park bag to avoid issues at attractions requiring lockers.

Be Prepared for Water Rides

If you’ll be hitting the water rides at the parks like Jurassic World: The Ride at Universal Studios Hollywood or going to their Super Silly Fun Land outdoor water play area, you may also want to add in some water protectant items. A cell phone water resistant lanyard holder is nice to have on vacation at the pool, but it also works great when you head to a water area in the theme park.

At Universal Studios Orlando you can get wet on the Jurassic Park River Adventure, Popeye and Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges, and Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls. Definitely plan to leave any items that you don’t want to get wet at the lockers, and put items like cell phones or cards into a water resistant pouch before riding.
