Our bellies are full, our hearts are happy, and we’ve enjoyed our family time this Christmas season! After a hectic rush to get everything done before the big day, we were happy to enjoy some quality time at home while the girls are off school for two weeks. It’s been a time of relaxation and reflection that was much needed!
2018 was a year of action for us, and in fact ‘action’ was my “Word of the Year” as well. I will be updated in a future post and video on my word of the year for 2019, which I’m looking forward to seeing how that manifests itself! The interesting thing is, the past few years after taking some time to reflect on my personal goals and desires – my word of the year has presented itself. In 2017 my word of the year was “explore” and we did just that, by visiting new places and even MOVING to a new place that year – Huntsville, Alabama!
Now that we have taken some time to explore and take action, it was time to reflect on my goals for the upcoming year and find a word that really encompassed how I wanted my year to go. Christmas is a great time to reflect not only our physical wishes, but also the wishes of our heart.
This Christmas, I talked in my “What I want for Christmas” video about the importance of time, and how it was my biggest wish this Christmas
The girls received some of the things on their Christmas wishlist – not all, as LOL dolls have been banned from our house (perhaps this warrants a video?) – and we tried to steer the girls gifts to encourage curious, creative, and scientific items. I think it is a good learning experience for them, especially when we receive so many nice gifts throughout the year, to not receive every single thing on their wishlist. As we all know in life, you don’t always get everything you want – finding joy in what you do have is key.

Christmas has also been great to have a chance to slow down, and enjoy the moment. The past year has been good progress wise, but also very hectic. Having more time to focus has also helped me realize that more time should also help with being present more (which I realize this may not always be a one to one correlation, but in my case – more time does seem to help with this!) and this is very much a wish for 2019.
So what does 2019 hold for our family? I don’t know yet, other than at least one Disney trip! I’m looking forward to seeing the year unfold and putting my NEW word of the year into ACTION.
Take a guess at my 2019 Word of the Year after watching my New Years Resolutions video:
