This March I attended the Magical Media Retreat in Anaheim, California and had a blast! The conference was a small group, focused retreat style and I loved that I was able to get to know the attendees with more depth than you sometimes can at the larger conferences. The schedule was over the weekend, so it fit perfectly into a busy mom’s availability. Here’s what I learned at the retreat, what I wore while I was there, and my favorite parts about it!

Magical Media Retreat 2023
This was not only my first time at Disneyland, it was also completely my first time in California all together! One of my goals for 2023 was to attend a small group, focused retreat and I loved that not only did I meet that goal by attending the Magical Media Retreat, but I also was able to visit someplace new to me!

My favorite outfit of the weekend was this glam jean jacket with rhinestones and pearls, that was coupled with a polka dot skirt – inspired by one of my favorite characters!

I also really loved this rainbow pleat skirt from Janne Fashion, I was stopped so many times to be asked about it! It was bright, colorful and the perfect skirt for spring!

The jean jackets I brought with me really saved the day though! I enjoyed wearing them all and they were soft, comfortable, and fit true to size. It was a bit chilly each of the days I was in California, so I wore one of these jean jackets each of the days. Find the link for all of them here.

Hotel for the Magical Media Retreat
We were hosted at the Hilton Anaheim location and it worked perfectly for both the conference activities and heading to Disneyland to take in the local theme park attraction. I used the ART (Anaheim Regional Transportation) Bus System to get around and this was a convenient, cost effective method of transportation. I’m not personally big on using Uber or Lyft services, so using the bus that was dedicated to taking guests to Disneyland Resort worked perfectly for me.
My room was huge! I enjoyed spreading out in my king suite at the Hilton Anaheim. I have an entire blog dedicated to take a look at the accommodations here.
As for the retreat itself, you could tell the hosts Jenny from Princess Turned Mom, Kim from The Parentologist, and Justine from Little Dove Blog, put a great deal of thought and care into providing a rewarding weekend for the attendees. Our schedule kicked off with headshots, to be able to use in our portfolio from Amanda at Capitivating by Amanda.
After our headshots were taken, we had an opening night cocktail hour in the Vista Lounge with a variety of delicious appetizers and cocktails.
Conference Time
On the main conference day, we had a full day of learning and connecting, and I loved that some of the sponsors of the event were also able to talk directly to the attendees. We received a lot of great goodies from the sponsors that supported the event, and I enjoyed the variety of sponsors as well.

The learning sessions covered everything from freshening up your media kit, connecting with brands, and blog techniques. As a long time YouTuber that had a blog “just because”, I truly appreciated learning even what may seem like a little pointer to longstanding bloggers, that could make a huge difference in how I can make my own blogs more effective. My blog has actually become a main vehicle for how people are introduced to my brand, and because of that I’ve had to change my mindset from “I’m a YouTuber”… to “I’m a content creator!” and while that means dawning many hats, it also means that I get to learn things from many unique angles as well!
Brunch was sponsored by Get Away Today and I enjoyed hearing more about their approach to affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing has become a huge part of my business over the past few years, and it was wonderful to hear more from the brand side. They also offered up the ability to partner with attendees to offer exclusive discounts to visit Disneyland Resort! Check out the link below to get directly connected to an agent at Get Away Today!

The evening of the conference we had a girls night out sponsored by June Care, which I truly hope is rolled out across the country. They offer “mom swap” care services and this sounds like it most definitely fills a need that exists after the pandemic. They are currently only located inside California at the time of this article, but hope to be rolling out to other states soon!
Our evening out was at Splitsville and this was a treat because I had never gone to Splitsville in either Anaheim OR Orlando before! We had a great time bowling and enjoying wonderful food. I ordered the loaded nachos, and goodness – were they ever loaded?!? It was a fantastic evening that ended with watching fireworks from the Esplanade. Perfect ending to the day!
On the last day of the conference, we met up for a quick Reels collaboration and it was great to be able to see everyone one final time before some people started to travel home, and I headed back to the theme parks for one more day!
Should you consider attending the Magical Media Retreat?
If you are considering this retreat, I would recommend that you give a try! It exceeded all of my expectations of attending a small group retreat and this is one I would attend again. Big pluses for me were that it WAS at Disneyland, a new to me location to explore. And I loved the chance to meet a diverse set of content creators to learn about new takes on things going on in the content world. It was also just a validating experience, with side topics covering things like creator burnout – which I myself have experienced – it left me with a sense of direction and purpose in certain areas that I had been faltering in prior to the conference.
In short… give it a go! You’ll meet some wonderful ladies and I hope to return in future years… so perhaps you might even see me there!
