Decorating at the New House
We recently moved over the summer into a new home and one of the things I was looking forward to was figuring out which pieces of furniture fit around the house. This is one of the consistently hardest things about moving frequently, is that not all furniture fits into all spaces and what works in one house – may not work in another.
Along the way, I’ve tried to pick pieces of furniture and decor that could lend themselves to many spaces. Sometimes, the new space requires you to get creative which is what we did in our kitchenette dining area.
For this space, it needed a round table and four chair set, of which we no longer had. (I gave our previous round table set when we moved to Alabama from Michigan.) I found a table and separate chairs that I liked on Overstock.com and took a leap of faith that they would come together. After they arrived, I was very happy with the result!
The cabinet you see in the background did not start out in a kitchen area, in fact at the previous house in Alabama – it was our TV stand! I purhcased this Bell’O cabinet from Bed Bath & Beyond as a TV cabinet for our family room. While I always liked the cabinet, it was never my favorite with a television on it. After we moved into this house, the TV area has built in cabinets and a recessed area for a TV cabinet that was just a HALF inch too short for the cabinet.
I found a smaller TV cabinet that I have really ended up liking (also coincidentally by Bell’O!) but still really liked this gray sliding door cabinet, so I wanted to find a way to work it in to the new house. And I think I found a solution!
A Rae Dunn Display
Rae Dunn has been a favorite to collect and display for a few years now and I’ve amassed quite a bit of a collection. I enjoy rotating it out throughout the year and keeping a display of my Rae Dunn pieces in the kitchen area. While we were moving, I realized that our previous TV stand would actually work perfectly to display some of my Rae Dunn!
After moving the TV cabinet in, I put a mirror that was previously over our fireplace at our old house over the cabinet and picked some of my favorite Rae Dunn pieces to display in a vignette on the top of the cabinet.
I thought this was a great reuse of this furniture piece and I was glad to find a home for it in our new house!
