When it comes to evening ensembles, you’ll want to step up your fashion game a bit. Many Disney cruises have optional formal nights, so if you want to take part plan for a snazzy outfit to wear those evenings. I especially like wearing a nice sundress to dinner on Caribbean cruises.
Planning Your Disney Cruise Wardrobe
Planning your Disney Cruise outfits ahead of embarkation day is key to ensure you have everything you need for a comfortable and stylish vacation. Here are some tips to help you plan your Disney Cruise wardrobe.
Understanding Cruise Dress Codes
Disney Cruise Line has different suggested dress for different nights on the cruise, including themed nights, cruise casual, and formal nights. For longer cruises, you’ll have a series of “regular dinner” evenings, a themed night, and an optional formal wear evening.
On cruise casual nights, you can wear shorts, jeans, and sundresses. Often you’ll be coming in from an excursion and if you have the early dinner, you won’t have lots of time to change. So I plan my outfits accordingly that are easy to change into and are comfortable to wear throughout the evening.

Themed nights on the Caribbean cruises typically include a Pirate Night, a fun night of sea shanties and fireworks at sea. If you’ll be on an Alaskan cruise, you’ll have the chance to take part in “Freezing the Night Away”, a fun Frozen themed evening of chilly fun.
Formal Dinners at Palo or Remy
The dress code is more strictly enforced when you have a Palo or Remy reservation. These restaurants are an additional paid experience and something that guests opt into if they want an upscale dining experience while on the ship.
The dress code at Palo on Disney Cruise is typically “cruise casual” during the day and “elegant attire” in the evening. For Remy, the dress code is “elegant evening attire” for both men and women. Your outfits should avoid jeans, shorts, swimwear, flip flops, and coverups in these dining venues.
Creating a Packing List
To make sure you have everything you need for your Disney Cruise, download our free cruise packing list from our sister site, Moms with Mouse Ears.
Be sure to include items for each dress code night, as well as casual wear for daytime activities. Don’t forget to pack comfortable shoes for walking around the ship and excursions, and a swimsuit for the pool and water activities.
Considering the Weather
The weather can vary during your Disney Cruise, so it’s important to pack for different conditions. Bring light layers for cooler temperatures, and sunscreen and a hat for sunny days. If you’re cruising during hurricane season, be prepared for possible rain and storms by packing a rain jacket or umbrella.
Daytime Outfit Inspirations
When it comes to daytime outfits on a Disney cruise, there are a few key things to keep in mind. You’ll want to be comfortable, practical, and stylish all at the same time. Here are some outfit inspirations for different daytime activities on the ship:
Poolside Essentials
If you plan on spending some time lounging by the pool, you’ll want to make sure you have the right outfit and accessories. A swimsuit is a must, of course, but you’ll also want to bring a cover-up or a lightweight sundress to throw on over it. A wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses will help protect you from the sun, and a beach bag is essential for carrying all your poolside essentials.
Beach and Excursion Attire
If you’re planning on visiting Castaway Cay or going on any beach excursions, you’ll want to dress appropriately. A lightweight, flowy dress or shorts and a breezy top are perfect for the beach.
Don’t forget to bring a pair of flip flops or sandals that are easy to slip on and off. You’ll also want to bring a beach bag to carry your sunscreen, water, and other essentials.
For excursions where you will be going to see local sights, make sure to pack shoes that you can do an ample amount of walking in. As you usually need to walk from the pier to a pickup location and then around the excursion sight when you arrive.

Around the Ship Casual Wear
For casual days on the ship, you’ll want to keep it comfortable and easy. Shorts or capris paired with a cute top or tank are perfect for exploring the ship or grabbing lunch at one of the casual dining spots.
A pair of comfortable shoes, like Sanuk Yoga Joy flip flops, will keep your feet happy all day long. Don’t forget to bring a light sweater or jacket for cooler indoor areas.
Evening Ensemble Ideas
When it comes to dressing up for the evening on a Disney cruise, the options are endless. Whether you’re dining at a fancy restaurant or attending a themed night, there are plenty of outfit inspirations to choose from. Here are some ideas to help you plan your evening ensembles.
Dining Outfits for Every Night
Most Disney cruises offer rotational dining, which means you’ll be dining at a different restaurant every night. This gives you the opportunity to dress up and show off your style. For a casual dinner, you can wear a sundress or a skirt with a blouse.
For a more formal dinner, a cocktail dress or a suit and tie are appropriate. Don’t forget to accessorize with a statement necklace or a pair of earrings.
Themed Night Apparel
Disney cruises are known for their themed nights, and dressing up is part of the fun. For Pirate Night, you can channel your inner pirate with a striped shirt, a bandana, and a pirate hat. For Marvel Day at Sea, you can dress up as your favorite superhero or villain. Don’t forget to check the cruise itinerary to see what themed nights are planned and plan your outfit accordingly.

Accessorizing Your Evening Look
Accessories can take your evening look to the next level. A Mickey Mouse icon and heart layered necklace is a great addition to any outfit.
You can also add a clutch or a statement bag to carry your essentials. Don’t forget to wear comfortable shoes, especially if you plan on dancing the night away in one of the lounges onboard.
Special Occasion Outfits
There are lots of ways to create outfits that make your cruise (and photos!) extra special on a Disney Cruise.
Celebrating with Character-Themed Outfits
If you’re traveling with kids or just a fan of Disney characters, consider incorporating them into your special occasion outfit. Dress up as Minnie Mouse with a polka dot dress and ears, or go all out with a Star Wars-themed outfit. These fun and playful outfits are sure to bring a smile to everyone’s face.
Festive Attire for Holiday Cruises
If you’re sailing on a Disney cruise during the holiday season, make sure to pack some festive attire.
For Halloween on the High Seas, consider a spooky costume or themed outfit. For Christmas, a cozy sweater or dress in red and green is perfect for a festive touch. Don’t forget to check the cruise itinerary for any specific dress code requirements for holiday events.
Our Halloween cruise on the Disney Wish was a spectacular time!
No matter what special occasion you’re celebrating on your Disney cruise, there’s an outfit that’s perfect for the occasion. From formal nights to character-themed outfits to holiday attire, there are plenty of options to choose from. Just remember to have fun and enjoy the magic of your Disney cruise experience.
Family-Friendly Fashion Tips
When it comes to family vacations, Disney Cruise outfits can be a great way to bond and create memories. Here are some family-friendly fashion tips to make sure everyone looks their best on your Disney Cruise:
Coordinating Family Outfits
Coordinating outfits can be a fun way to show off your family’s personality and create a cohesive look in your family photos. Consider choosing a color scheme or theme that everyone can work with, such as classic Disney colors like red, black, and yellow, or incorporating matching mouse ears into each outfit.
For a more subtle approach, try coordinating with similar styles or patterns. For example, mom and daughter could wear matching sundresses, while dad and son wear coordinating Hawaiian shirts.
Comfortable Choices for Kids
Kids need to feel comfortable and free to move around on a cruise ship, so it’s important to choose outfits that won’t restrict their movement or cause discomfort. Opt for breathable fabrics like cotton or linen, and avoid anything too tight or restrictive.
Children ages 3-12 can attend the Oceaneer Club for club programming and this area is a great space for kids to interact and be creative.
If you have tweens and teens, there are also clubs for them! Edge is just for tweens ages 11 to 14, and Vibe is the exclusive hangout for teens.
Cruise Footwear and Accessories
Choosing Comfortable Shoes
When packing for your Disney cruise, it’s important to choose comfortable shoes that will keep your feet happy throughout the trip. On embarkation day, you’ll likely be doing a lot of walking as you explore the ship and settle into your stateroom. We recommend wearing comfortable shoes that you’ve broken in before your trip.
For other days on the cruise, consider packing a pair of wedges or sandals for dressier occasions, and a pair of comfortable walking shoes for excursions or days at port. Sanuk Yoga Joy sandals are a great option for both style and comfort.
Essential Accessories for Style and Functionality
Accessories can help elevate your Disney cruise outfits while also serving a practical purpose. A cosmetic case is a must-have for storing your makeup and toiletries, while an ear headband or lanyard can add a playful touch to your look while keeping your room key or ID card easily accessible.
For cooler days, a Spirit Jersey or baseball cap can help keep you warm while also adding some Disney flair to your outfit. Don’t forget to pack a comfortable and functional bag to carry all your essentials, such as sunscreen, sunglasses, and a refillable water bottle. With these accessories, you’ll be ready for any adventure that comes your way on your Disney cruise.
Disney Cruise Line Exclusive Merchandise
If you’re a Disney fan, you won’t want to miss out on the exclusive merchandise available on board the Disney Cruise Line ships. From the iconic Disney Cruise Line lanyard to the trendy spirit jerseys and baseball caps, there’s something for everyone.
One popular item is the Disney Cruise Line cosmetic case, which is perfect for storing your makeup and toiletries while on board. And for a fun and festive touch, don’t forget to pack the Minnie Mouse Disney Cruise Line ear headband.
Some items are available to order from the Disney Store prior to your embarkation day and this is a fun way to have some special items on your cruise and also a great memento to have afterwards.
Photo Packages on a Disney Cruise
Now that you’ve planned your perfect outfits, you’re going to want some photos to remember them by!
Disney Cruise Line offers various photo packages that guests can purchase to capture their memories onboard. These packages often include professional photos taken at designated locations throughout the ship, as well as digital copies and prints of the images.
The unlimited digital package is available to all guests in your Disney Cruise reservation prior to boarding at a discounted price, and is also available for purchase after you board the ship. This will give you access to all of your photos taken on the ship during your sailing, and is a great way to get all of the dinner photos and character photos that were taken on your trip.
The ships also offer a premium photo experience where you can book a 30 minute private photo session. This is a great way to get good family photos and sibling photos as well.
If you opt for the a la carte photo purchase, make sure you visit Shutters Portrait Studio on your ship prior to disembarking. Photos that will be purchased individually are only available through the end of your cruise. You are not able to access these photos after disembarking if you have not previously purchased a photo package. (This has caught us more than once by forgetting to look at them before leaving the ship!)
