When you go to Disney, you will be walking a LOT of miles! On an average Disney day, I can walk between 15,000 to 20,000 steps, which equates into seven to ten miles a day! Having shoes that are both support and right for my feet are important so that I can have the best Disney day ever without having to worry about my feet hurting!

I used to not really understand why or how people could wear sandals at Disney and walk SO MANY miles… but after finding the right fit sandals for me, I finally understand! I now rotate in my favorite style of sandals along with a supportive pair of trainers and this seems to work really well for me.
They don’t look they have much to them, but the supportive strap and yoga bottom allow me to walk lots of steps without feeling like I’ve walked nearly as many. I have them in a few different colors to rotate between them.

I also really love these Tree Flyers from All Birds! They are light weight and great for when you want a trainer style shoe. I picked out mine in the Lux Pink color, and it went with a ton of different outfits.

The back of the ankle has a supportive pad so they don’t slip up and down, and they aren’t too heavy on my feet. The breathable mesh helps my feet not overheat, so this is one sneaker I can wear at Disney!
Best Shoes to Wear at Disney
The best shoes for your feet may vary from person to person, but frequent Disney travelers agree on a number of points that are important to find in the shoes you bring.
- Shoes should be tested and broken in at home before arriving at Disney. The last thing you want is to arrive with all new shoes and finding out in the middle of your first Disney day that they give you blisters
- Test the shoes for walks around your neighborhood and running errands to test them on different flooring and pavement surfaces.
- Keep in mind that it can rain a LOT in Florida if you’re planning on visiting Walt Disney World (and it rained while I was at Disneyland too!) – so make sure you have a footwear option that works in inclement or wet weather
- Shoes should give you enough support and the right kind of support. This will vary from person to person depending on whether you need more support at your ankle, bottom of feet or across the top of your foot.
- Shoes should not be so heavy that they weigh your feet down. I’ve made the mistake of wearing heavy shoes because I thought heavy equaled support (spoiler alert: it doesn’t) and it made my feet tired so fast I could barely walk by the second day!
These are the shoes that I have worn the most and I’ve found really work for me! For years I thought I couldn’t wear a sandal at Disney because it wouldn’t be supportive enough, but in the extremely hot temperatures, I found that my feet that already run hot (I can’t sleep in socks because my feet get too hot and make me overheat, so if that sounds familiar you may want to consider testing this) and the pavement would start to drive the heat up my entire leg. This would be an incredibly uncomfortable situation and make it to where walking was not really fun by the 3-4 day in. I found that by wearing the right kind of sandals or light weight shoes that allowed my feet to breath, I was able to walk a ton of miles while not overheating my feet.
As far as finding what is best for YOU? You need to take into account any particular foot structure issues that you have that may require a specific type of shoe, whether your feet run hot (because that pavement is scorching and will just make them hotter!), and also what kind of shoes you’ve tested walking distances in before that work well for you.
Here are some great shoe options that have worked for lots of Disney fans! These brands and styles of shoes are some of the most referred in Disney groups:
