The Secrets of Sulpher Springs follows a family that has moved into an old hotel and wants to fix it up to be back to its original charm. There are twists and turns throughout the story, and this series is a bit spooky but still appropriate for kids 7+ that enjoy a bit of suspense.
Another great TV show with a Halloween theme is Goosebumps! based on the book series of the same name, this series has tales that are a bit spooky and creepy. You can find it on Amazon Prime or Netflix. The show is rated TV-14 and typically is acceptable for viewers 12 and up. So this one works best for tweens and teens that want a bit of a fright but aren’t ready for the classic horror movies quite yet!

Horror is a popular genre that older kids and adults may want to mix into your Halloween movie list. We don’t watch many horror films at our house, but I felt like I would be remiss in making suggestions for Halloween movie nights without at least mentioning of some of the scariest fright films.
Many early films helped define the horror genre. “Psycho,” directed by Alfred Hitchcock in 1960, changed the way thrillers were perceived. As a horror classic, its shocking plot twists and suspenseful music set a new standard for horror films.
The 1931 film “Frankenstein,” based on Mary Shelley’s novel, was another important milestone. It introduced the idea of a monster that evoked sympathy. This shift led to deeper emotional connections in horror storytelling. John Carpenter’s “Halloween,” released in 1978, is essential in the development of slasher films. It introduced the concept of a relentless killer and established the formula for many future horror movies.
Movies like “Scream” revived interest in slasher films in the 1990s, showing how Halloween themes can be adapted to new styles in a horror flick. And since that time movies have become darker and more intense because of special effects. More movies to add to your super scary movie marathon would be movies like Blair Witch Project and Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
We don’t watch a ton of the SUPER scary movies at our house, but here are some suggestions if you want to add in a few jump scares to your watch list!
