If you’re looking for a fun extra to add onto your Opryland Resort stay in Nashville, SoundWaves is one of the biggest reasons families choose to turn their trip into more of a full resort vacation. SoundWaves is Gaylord Opryland’s upscale indoor/outdoor water attraction, and the indoor section is open year-round at 84 degrees, while the seasonal outdoor attractions typically operate on select dates from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

One important thing to know before you go is that SoundWaves admission is not automatically included with a standard Opryland stay. The SoundWaves Experience Package is the only guaranteed way to access SoundWaves, and room-only reservations do not include admission. When you book the package, admission is valid for your arrival day, full stay days, and through noon on checkout day.
For our family, this was a really fun destination and something that genuinely added to the overall value of staying at Opryland. We would absolutely book a water park package again when we return.
Attractions at SoundWaves
SoundWaves is a 4-acre, 3-level indoor/outdoor water attraction with recreation zones for adults, families, and young children. The indoor section is what makes this one especially interesting for a Nashville trip, because it gives you a water park experience even when the outdoor areas are closed for the season. It has a music-themed design, living walls, pools, and water features woven throughout the space.
The indoor section is really the core of the experience year-round. That area includes the warmer climate-controlled water attractions and gives the whole place more of a resort feel than a traditional standalone water park. It feels polished, modern, and a little more elevated than you might expect from a family water attraction.
If you visit during the seasonal outdoor opening dates, there is even more to do. The outdoor areas include looping drop and body slides, a four-lane mat racer, a multi-level kids play structure, wave pool features, and dedicated recreation zones for adults, young children, and families. The outdoor areas for 2026 run from May 22, 2026 through September 7, 2026, but there are also closed dates throughout the calendar, so it is important to check the operating calendar before your trip.
One thing that makes SoundWaves stand out is that it is not trying to feel like a huge theme park-style water park. Instead, it feels like part of the overall resort experience at Opryland. That makes it especially appealing if you want a family getaway where you can stay mostly on property and still have plenty to do.
Who is SoundWaves Best For?
SoundWaves is a very good fit for families staying at Opryland who want more than just a hotel pool. It adds a major activity to the trip and gives families another reason to build in a resort day instead of spending every hour off property exploring Nashville. I believe it adds a lot to the overall family offering at Opryland.
This is also a particularly good option for families who like the convenience of having everything in one place. Since SoundWaves is tied directly to the resort stay, it works well for a check-in day, a full resort day, or even a lighter checkout morning.
Traveling with Kids
For families with kids, SoundWaves is a strong option because it gives you a mix of family attractions, kids’ areas, and a resort-style environment that feels manageable. It is not just about thrill slides! There are zones for young children, families, and adults, which makes it easier for a multigenerational or mixed-age trip to work well here.
Because part of the attraction is indoors and open year-round, this can also be a nice fit for families traveling outside peak summer months. That flexibility makes it different from a lot of outdoor-only water parks and can make an Opryland trip feel more appealing in cooler seasons.
If your family enjoys booking resort-based vacations where the hotel itself is part of the experience, SoundWaves is likely going to be a very good fit.
Dining at SoundWaves
One nice part of the SoundWaves setup is that dining is built into the experience, so you are not having to completely leave the area when everyone gets hungry.
For a family water day, that convenience matters a lot! It helps SoundWaves feel more like a full-day resort amenity rather than just a quick swim stop. Since the attraction is designed as part of a larger upscale resort environment, the dining and lounge components help support that more polished feel.
If you are planning a full SoundWaves day, I would expect to make use of the dining options, like Decibels, there rather than trying to treat this like a short in-and-out activity.
Why We Recommend SoundWaves for Families
If you are already staying at Gaylord Opryland and want to make the most of the resort, SoundWaves is one of the best extras you can add. This was a fun family destination; it added to what Opryland offers families, and it is something we would book again.
What makes it especially appealing is that it adds a built-in activity that feels vacation-worthy without needing to leave the resort. Opryland is already known for being a destination-style hotel, and SoundWaves helps reinforce that by giving families a major indoor/outdoor attraction right on property.
It is also nice that there are discount offers available for some travelers. Tennessee residents can save up to 25% on select dates, Davidson County residents can save up to 40%, and there are also special offers for military, veterans, and teachers.
Tips from a Mom: Make sure you book the correct package instead of assuming access comes with your room, double-check the operating calendar before your trip since closed dates do not always follow an obvious pattern, and if you are traveling in summer, try to choose dates when the outdoor attractions are open too.
