When Life Catches Up to You…

March 6, 2019 By Diana

The past few months have been full of reflection. They’ve been busy and full of decisions. Decisions of what I want my future to look like, our family’s future to look like, and what the best way to get there would be.

For the past year and half, I’ve been working as a social media manager at a local real estate company. It’s been a lot of fun, I love the team I work with, and being able to work outside the house while connecting with new people has been amazing! It didn’t come without sacrifices though… jumping back into full-time work meant putting the girls in after school care, having a more restricted travel schedule, and just “fewer hours” during the week.

Working moms can empathize, I never knew how fast a week could go before I went back to work with kids. The day is full of meetings, brainstorming, working on projects, in the evening a quick hour or two is all I have with the kids before they are off to bed. Then we get up the next day. And do it again.

It worked great… for a while. It fulfilled my need to meet people in our new area, was great to engage with adults in the work environment, but I still felt the constant struggle – of never really feeling like I was able to get it all done. For quite some time, I managed my YouTube on top of working, I went down to fewer videos a week, but it worked. Then I added Scentsy (which doesn’t take too much time!) and it was great fun, and I managed… then as the holidays were here, things just started adding up! And here we are… I’m getting back on track.

I also finally realized I needed to make some changes.

My word of the year is “Serenity” and it is something I would like more of in my life in 2019. It may not be every moment of every day… but more, would be great! After some reflection, I realized that I do really enjoy working outside of the home and especially being a part of the team I’m on, but working inside the office for 40+ hours a week wasn’t what was making my heart sing. Luckily, being a part of a real estate team and working in the real estate environment for the past year and a half – I realized there ARE other options! To have a career, work outside the home, but still have a more flexible schedule that I set around busy times with the kids’ schedules or family obligations.

Real Estate has always been of interest to me. Curious enough, I’ve had other times in my past where the option has been “presented” to me to get into real estate, and my life took a path down another “Y” intersection… going to graduate school instead of taking a position I was offered a new home builder. Having a house we were going to rent out but then deciding we didn’t want to be long distance property managers after we had to move to a new state for Dan’s job. It’s always been intriguing to me, so I suppose the fact that I was able to put my social media experience to work at a real estate office was fitting. The real estate agent side is always so interesting. I love the hustle and bustle, the overall positive energy helping people find their home sweet home.

And so… I decided to start working on getting my real estate license!

I’m completely excited and of course after I started, I officially have NO free time… it has taken up the last little bit of remaining time I had in the day. But I know it will be worth it in the end. I’m looking forward to still being a part of the team that I’m on, just in a different way! It will be a different challenge, and whole new type of learning – and I’m totally psyched to take it on!

So while real estate will definitely not become my whole YouTube channel or blog, I will be sharing my journey along the way. Of what it’s like to get licensed. Transitioning to real estate from a regular 9-5 position, and more.

I’m looking forward to bringing you along! And I hope you enjoy it as much as I think I will!

    Hi Diana,
I’m truly happy for you and your new adventure. I think I said that someplace else and you liked it. Anyway,I also never posted my word of the year…“Living in the moment” more than one word, but it is something I struggle with, being present in the now!! I hope ya’ll have a great time for Spring Break. We are going the beginning of June and will stay at Saratoga Springs. I also wanted to say we are doing our first Halloween on the High Seas cruise September 14 for 7 days. We are really excited because it is Western Caribbean and the longest cruise we have been on as well as new ports of call. Will try to do Alaska at some point in the future but first are looking at something in Europe for 2020. Lastly, we are looking at moving out of Colorado and are heading the end of the month to the Raleigh area to scope it out and see if we like it, and Florida is also in the running. My husband is a techie and can work from anywhere, so that is a bonus! Blessings to you and the fam, love your posts, and keep up the good work!
